Announcing something New and Fun Coming up Next Month!

We will be doing Plein Aire Painting- Let me correct that not only Painting- Photography- drawing- or just Getting together with a bunch of Artists!

Sunday April 7th- pack your Watercolors, Acrylics, Pastels, Cameras and get in your cars and drive to Valley of Fire- where we will meet for a day, enjoy the scenery, maybe take a hike- We will all meet up at Mouse's Tank, where they have covered Picnic Tables - a great area for photos and painting,yes they have bathrooms. All you have to bring is a packed lunch and drinks for the day! It get's hot- so bring a hat!

I will have a map soon! maybe Car Pool, and share the admission fee! So- stay tuned for more info!

New Logo Contest Extended

You may have noticed our new temporary logo, created lovingly as a temporary solution, by none other than Karen Wheeler. For many years now, the “Vegas Artists’ Guild” had a logo that, at the time of its creation, epitomized the group in the manner of their choosing.

As many of us are aware, the overuse of the artwork -which was never paid for if I understand the story correctly- of the “Fabulous Las Vegas sign” is something that has become synonymous with passé. How many trade shows come to town and thinking themselves clever, use the Las Vegas sign in their artwork? (If you don’t know the answer, its over half of them) How many times each day are you in visual contact with this symbol? Probably enough that you barely notice it now.

That’s part of the issue. The rest of the issue is that the Guild has changed. We are a diversified group of artists, many professionals and representative of many different media and artistic stylings, including our appreciators of art who just come to our meetings and support our organization because they understand the importance art plays in our society. This change is nothing but wonderful! We want to celebrate it with you.

What’s the best way to move forward into the next phase of the Guild?

A LOGO CONTEST of course!

1. Participants must be LVAG members in good standing.

2. NO electronic submissions will be allowed although you are welcome to use vector art and print out your masterpiece.

3. NO original art pieces may be submitted (it needs to be YOUR art but not YOUR original, a copy is what we are after here)

4. ALL artwork must be 8” x 8” and printed on standard white 8.5” x 11” paper and submitted in person.

5. NO names will be on your art. We will assign you a number when you drop off your art for submission.

This contest will be judged by professionals at Canyon Creative who are sponsoring the contest.

What do you get if you win?

You will get a $100 Desert Art Supply Gift Certificate; your name and photo in the next issue of eARTh as well as a link to your website all year long with creative credit for the logo being given to you, and you will receive a t-shirt with your logo centered on the full chest. (10” x 10”;).

Bring your submissions to the February Mixer and more dates for submissions will be revealed there onsite on February 11, 2013.

Whole Foods Green Valley at the District on Saturday February 2nd

100 S Green Valley Parkway, Henderson, NV

11am to 4pm

***The First Saturday of the Month***

Whole Foods Charleston on Saturday February 16th

8855 West Charleston, Las Vegas, NV

11am to 4pm

***The Third Saturday of the Month***

Please bring a table and chairs if needed, cover for the sun, and sunscreen.

Whole Foods has asked that if you smoke, please do not smoke in front of store.

Spots are aprox 6x10 to 10x10 please leave room for your fellow artists. Remember set up time is between 10:00am and 11:00am

Please do not set up prior to 10:00am.

The event is completely free to Vegas Artist Guild Members! This is a super opportunity for everyone to get out and introduce your self to the public. You do not need to have an entire display set up just a few pieces and contact information to start...demonstrations are welcome!

Juried Art Show - Spring has Sprung

The Las Vegas Artists' Guild will be holding a juried art show at the Cirty of the World Gallery for March. This year's theme will be "Spring has Sprung". Get your creative juices flowing right now so you don't miss this opportunity.

The judges will be Brian Paco Alvarez, Vickie Richardson, and one more to be announced. You must be an LVAG member in good standing and there is a $10 submission fee and a contract that must be signed to participate in this show. Art must be ready to hang and no saw tooth hangers please.

Proposed Bylaws to be voted on February 11

In order to be consistent with the laws in the State of Nevada, the bylaws for the Las Vegas Artists' Guild required re-writing. This was announced to Guild members during the January 2013 General Meeting. Please read the proposed bylaws by clicking here. The bylaws will be voted upon by the Membership at the February 2013 General Meeting.

The General Meeting for February 11, 2013 will be held at the community center of Las Palmas Apartments at 3550 Paradise Road in Las Vegas.

Little Spring Exhibit

The Vegas Artists Guild's 'Little Spring Exhibit' will be at Blick Art Supplies from Monday, May 7th thru Sunday May 27th 2012.

The reception for this exhibit will be Sunday, May 20, 2012 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. We hope that you will choose to attend the reception and invite as many friends as you like.
